Photo report of a walk around Loutro, Sfakia, Crete

September 2008, by Baukje and Arno

Loutro to Marmara Beach, Agios Vasilios, Aradena gorge, Azogires, Livaniana and back to Loutro.

In september 2008 we wanted to make a walk from Loutro to Marmara Beach, then uphill to Agios Vasilios, downhill into the Aradena gorge (there would be a small path). Then we should walk through the gorge halfway the bridge. At the other side of the gorge we would walk uphill to the ruines of Azogires, the village Livaniana and back to Loutro.

But... we could not find the little path into the gorge, so we decided to walk further towards the road from Agios Ioanis to Aradena. On our map there was a small path into the gorge. But... this path we could not find either, so we had to walk along the road to Aradena. From there we went to Livaniana and back to Loutro. We left at 8 o'clock in the morning and we were back in Loutro just before 7 o'clock in the evening. It was a very special walk, we enjoyed it very much, but... it was tough.

On the map I have drawn (see last image): 1: the first path we could not find, 2: the second path we could not find and 3: the place where we saw the KriKri (we think).
